ChildCare Education Institute® (CCEI), a distance learning professional development and certificate provider, is proud to introduce CUR118: Using Project Based Learning to Explore STEAM during Outdoor Learning to the online child care training course catalog.
There are a multitude of studies that document the benefits of spending time outdoors. Some studies cite benefits ranging from reduced stress to improved memory and immunity. Other studies show that spending time outdoors leads to better mental health and vision. Early educators are in a unique position to create a balance between indoor and outdoor experiences. Teachers can begin to prepare children for the jobs of the future by inspiring curiosity and instilling a love of learning. This course explores ways that teachers can enhance outdoor learning experiences through the integration of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) activities and project based learning. The course provides a wide variety of project ideas that are sure to engage and fascinate young learners.
“Childcare professionals play a critical role in helping children establish healthy habits and an appreciation for the outdoors,” says Maria C. Taylor, President and CEO of CCEI. “We’re excited to offer this course to inform teachers how they can use STEAM related activities to encourage children to explore elements of nature, and experience the beneficial effects of being outdoors.”
