Children and Divorce
This course assists early childhood education staff in better understanding the effects of divorce on children. Participants will learn how they can positively impact the lives of children during this difficult time. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to define how both age and developmental stages can determine how children cope with divorce. They should also be able to list ways they can better meet the needs of children and families experiencing divorce and separation while allowing children to maintain positive feelings about themselves.

Children and Grief
This course will explore how children experience grief and loss during the early years. Participants will explore recommended practices for helping children cope with the death of a loved one and other associated losses. Participants will learn how to be more culturally responsive to students and families who are grieving. Participants will discover the potential impact of supporting others in their grief and self-care strategies for teachers will be shared.

Coding in Early Childhood Education
In recent years there has been a big national push to focus on promoting coding and computer science education. But what does coding look like for very young children and how can it fit into a playful early childhood context? This course answers these questions by providing participants with an understanding of how to support young children’s (PreK-2nd grade) learning of coding and computational thinking through hands-on, playful, and creative ways. Participants will learn what coding is and how it can be used to support self-expression and creativity during the foundational early childhood years.
