While social and emotional learning is a common focus when it comes to educating children, there is less attention paid to the social and emotional wellness of adults. In this course, readers will learn about the components of social and emotional wellness in adults, as well as the importance of focusing on it. This course will teach the learner how to build social and emotional wellness in themselves and others, as well as how to recognize some signs that a person is struggling with their social and emotional well-being. This course will focus specifically on the importance of building social and emotional well-being in specific populations of adults. Finally, this course will examine two of the most common challenges to a person’s social and emotional health: anxiety and depression. This course will examine some common causes, warning signs, and treatment options for these conditions.

This course provides educators with comprehensive knowledge and practical strategies for teaching advanced decoding and word recognition skills to school-age learners. As children progress beyond basic phonics, they need sophisticated strategies to decode complex words, recognize spelling patterns, and develop automatic word recognition. The course covers systematic phonics instruction, morphological analysis, sight word development, and intervention strategies for struggling readers. Through evidence-based practices and differentiated instruction techniques, educators will learn to support students in developing fluent, accurate word recognition skills essential for reading comprehension and academic success.

This course examines the many reasons educators should advocate for their center, parents, children and staff and effective ways of doing so. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to define the role of an early childhood advocate; the steps required for successful advocacy and list the requirements to organize a successful advocacy campaign.

As a result of completing this course, participants will be able to identify important laws and current “best practices” regarding the inclusion of children with special needs in the classroom. Participants will also become familiar with different types of special needs and begin to formulate a “vision for inclusion” to support children of all abilities and their families. This course is a relaunch of CCEI968: Inclusion and Children with Special Needs. We have updated the content of the course and added 1 hour of new information.

This course will introduce participants to Learning Stories, a powerful assessment tool in early childhood education. When fully embraced by educators, directors, and families, Learning Stories are a transformative approach to assessment. They deepen connections between teachers, families, children, and the broader community. Participants will discover the essential components of Learning Stories and how to develop each component.
