This course was great. I really liked the video – it was very clear, accurate and inclusive. I appreciated that gender pronouns were brought up. I was happy that terminology was discussed at the beginning of this course since I think this holds a lot of people up. I thought it was not only accurate and useful but also strategic to include the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct in the course multiple times. There will be teachers, administrators and staff who take this course who do not agree with accepting people of different sexualities and genders. While a course is unlikely to change anyone’s mind. A begrudging “OK, I guess I’ll pay attention to this course because I have to follow these standards at work” is definitely better than nothing. This was a good move on your part. I really appreciated how you addressed the parent who doesn’t want their child to be engaging in play that is not traditional “boy” play. This issue comes up over and over throughout the years and my center doesn’t respond the way you suggested. I agree with what was suggested here and I want to recommend this course to others so they can read what is recommended here. While I’ve taken a lot of good classes with CCEI, I think this was the best!
