Fostering Equity in Early Childhood Education
This course will provide directors with an opportunity to improve program culture to better reflect the diverse and unique needs of staff and families enrolled in the program. A strong program culture that prioritizes equity fosters an inclusive environment where all children, families, and staff feel valued and supported. By implementing equitable policies and practices, directors can address systemic
barriers, promote culturally responsive engagement, and ensure all voices are heard. When program culture aligns with the needs of staff and families, trust is strengthened, engagement is improved, and a sense of belonging is cultivated. Retention of both staff and families can be positively impacted by an equitable and inclusive program culture, allowing program operations to remain strong through the most challenging times.

This course provides directors, administrators, and aspiring directors with a greater understanding of the value of good communication skills, as well as various techniques for listening and responding appropriately to staff, parents, and children. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able list key phrases to remember when communicating, identify ways to improve their communication skills, define active listening and explain methods to be used by staff members to effectively communicate among each other.
