Dedicated early childhood professionals engage in advocacy on a number of levels in order to promote policies and practices that improve the lives of young children and their families. Important issues include increased access to preschool for low income families, improved special needs services, child abuse prevention, toy safety, and children’s health. This course examines the many ways in which early childhood professionals can advocate for their center, parents, children, and staff. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to define the role of an early childhood advocate, the steps required for successful advocacy, and list the requirements to organize a successful advocacy campaign.

“Effective advocacy can make a tremendous impact on the children while potentially opening new, exciting career paths for childcare professionals,” says Maria C. Taylor, President and CEO of CCEI. “This course offers a blueprint of how to become a child advocate, and the importance of supporting the rights of our children and their families.”

This beginner-level training course is available as a trial course to new users with CCEI account creation in June. Current CCEI users with active, unlimited annual subscriptions can enroll in professional development courses at no additional cost when logged in to their CCEI account. Users without subscriptions can purchase child care training courses as block hours through CCEI online enrollment.
