girl drinking milkChildCare Education Institute® (CCEI), an online child care training course and certificate provider, offers NFS100: Healthy Habits: Nutrition and Fitness Practices as a no-cost trial course to new CCEI users during the month of November in recognition of American Diabetes Month® (ADM).

According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 26 million U.S. children and adults have diabetes and another 79 million are pre-diabetic and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. CCEI’s Healthy Habits course is focused on developing lifelong nutrition and fitness habits, which can help prevent adult health problems such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke, cancers, and osteoarthritis. This course offers guidance on why and how to develop a nutrition policy, strategies for working with families to promote proper nutrition practices at home, and curriculum enrichment ideas for increasing healthy lifestyle choices and reducing childhood obesity. USDA nutrition recommendations, healthful snacking, and portion sizes are also discussed within the one clock-hour course.

“Diabetes alone is estimated to have cost this nation $245 billion already, and that’s just for currently diagnosed individuals,” said Maria C. Taylor, President and CEO of CCEI. “Just imagine if we could put that number directly toward education programs. CCEI’s Healthy Habits course instructs educators on how to promote nutrition and fitness habits that will benefit children throughout their lives and, in the process, benefit society as a whole.”

This beginner-level training course is available as a trial course to new users with CCEI account creation in November. Current CCEI students with active, unlimited annual subscriptions can enroll in all courses at no additional cost when logged in to their CCEI account. Users without subscriptions can purchase child care training courses as block hours through CCEI online enrollment.
