New Courses from CCEI Cover Afterschool Care Market

ChildCare Education Institute® (CCEI), a distance learning professional development and certificate provider, is proud to introduce five new school-age care courses to the online child care training course catalog available for online enrollment now.

Even when school is out for the day, children need to be engaged in a comfortable and productive care environment. When working with school-age children, it is important to understand and recognize the different stages of development to be able to support the growth of each child. The goal of these new courses is to provide a wide variety of information about school-age care. SCH100, SCH101, and SCH102 focus on the developmental stages and characteristics of children ages 5 to 14, as well as recommended strategies and practices for supporting children’s developmental needs. Emphasis is on the afterschool and out-of-school-time care environments, but the content is appropriate for anyone who works with school-age children. Participants will learn to identify the ways in which children build and reinforce communication and social skills, demonstrate an understanding of the importance of self−regulation, identify behavioral characteristics of early adolescence, and much more.

In addition, courses focusing on successful homework support (SCH103) and successful transitions (SCH104) are also available for immediate online enrollment. Successful homework support provides an overview of current homework research, best practices, systems, and tools to support school-age children working on homework assignments in an afterschool or out-of-school-time setting. Successful transitions present recommended strategies and practices for easing different types of transitions in the school-age care environment. This includes transitions from one setting or activity to another as well as life’s many other transitions, some of which arise unexpectedly.

“Afterschool programs are very important to the development and growth of children outside the classroom,” says Maria C. Taylor, President and CEO of CCEI. “We’re excited to introduce these new courses to provide additional support to our existing course catalog. These courses offer over 10 hours of training to help create successful afterschool programs”

These school-age training courses are available for online enrollment now, and each award 0.1 IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for each course hour successfully completed. Active, unlimited individual or center-based subscription holders may take these courses at no additional cost at any time.
