Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Training Provided by CCEI

ChildCare Education Institute® (CCEI), a distance learning professional development and certificate provider, offers CCEI117: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome as an online no-cost trial child care training course to new CCEI users during the month of October in recognition of National SIDS awareness month.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the sudden death of an infant younger than one year of age that remains unexplained after autopsy. Despite progress over the last ten years, SIDS remains the leading cause of death among U.S. infants between one month and one year of age. This course is designed to increase knowledge about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and to inform early care professionals of risk reduction strategies. As a result of participating in this course, participants should be able to define SIDS, identify SIDS as the leading cause of death of infants between one month and one year of age, identify sleep environment dangers, identify the connection between child care and SIDS, identify healthy infant motor development in back sleeping infants, identify SIDS risk reduction recommendations, and more.

“Child care professionals who care for newborns and infants play a critical role in the effort to reduce SIDS” says Maria C. Taylor, President and CEO of CCEI. “This course provides key information about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and offers important data to help reduce occurrences of SIDS.”

This beginner-level online SIDS training course is available as a trial course to new users with CCEI account creation in October. Current CCEI users with active, unlimited annual subscriptions can enroll in professional development courses at no additional cost when logged in to their CCEI account. Users without subscriptions can purchase child care training courses as block hours through CCEI online enrollment.
